• An individual who is a Connecticut resident with a physical street address in the state
• A business entity authorized to do business in Connecticut and to act as a registered agent

The agent must consent to the appointment. You cannot name someone as your agent without their agreement.

Connecticut lets a partner serve as the LLP's registered agent, provided that partner has a physical Connecticut street address and is available during business hours. Plenty of partnerships start out this way. But there are real tradeoffs worth weighing before you name a partner.

• Public exposure: The agent's address goes on the public record and is searchable in the state's business database. If that's a partner's home, the home address is now findable by anyone.
• Availability risk: Partners take vacations, appear in court, attend closings, and travel for work. If a process server or state notice arrives while the named partner is out, you can miss something important.
• Awkward delivery: Being served with a lawsuit at your office in front of clients or staff is not a great look, and it's exactly what naming yourself as agent invites.
• Address changes: If a partner moves, you have to file a change with the state to keep the agent record valid. A commercial agent's address stays put.
