How to Change or Add an Agent for Your West Virginia LLC

If you've named an agent for service of process, it's where the Secretary of State forwards any lawsuit against your LLC. If you haven't named one, the state forwards lawsuits to your principal office instead. Either way, when that address stops working, you have to fix it with a formal filing, not just an informal handoff.

• You're leaving one service for another. Price, responsiveness, or a bad experience with missed or slow-forwarded documents all push people to switch providers.
• Your own situation changed. If you appointed yourself and you are moving out of West Virginia, you no longer fit the "individual resident" category and should name someone who does.
